Professor Patricia Kameri-Mbote is a Founding Research Director of IELRC and the Programme Director for Africa. Patricia is a Professor of Law and Dean at the School of Law, University of Nairobi. She was conferred the rank of Senior Counsel in 2012.

Alix GOWLLAND-GUALTIERI, Lic. iur., LLM, DPhil

Dr Alix Gowlland, Research Fellow, holds a doctorate in law (DPhil) from Oxford University and previously received an LLM from UC Berkeley. Her primary research area is international environmental law, with a particular focus on trade and environment, accountability of international financial organisations such as the World Bank, participation and information disclosure, human rights and environment, water, and wildlife law.

Thoko KAIME, LLB, LLM, PhD

Dr Thoko Kaime, Research Fellow, is Lecturer in law in the School of Law at the University of Leicester and Senior Teaching Fellow at the SOAS University of London. He was previously Lecturer in Law and Deputy Director of the Environmental Regulatory Research Group at the University of Surrey. Thoko maintains broad interests in the area of public international law and the social critique of law and legal policy.

David TAKACS, BSc, MA, JD, LLM, PhD

Dr David Takacs, Research Fellow, is Associate Professor of Law at UC Hastings where he teaches environmental law, biodiversity law, international environmental law and climate change law. He holds a PhD in Science & Technology Studies from Cornell University, an LLM from SOAS and a JD from University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He is the author of The Idea of Biodiversity (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1996). He has worked as a professor in Earth Systems Science & Policy at CSU Monterey Bay, a lecturer in the John S. Knight Writing Program at Cornell, a Peace Corps Forestry Volunteer in Senegal and more recently as a consultant on law and policy issues related to forest carbon for USAID and Conservation International.

Lovleen BHULLAR, BA/LLB, LLM, MSC, PhD

Lovleen Bhullar received her PhD in Law from SOAS University of London, UK. She holds an undergraduate degree in law from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, an LLM in Environmental Law from SOAS University of London, and an MSc in Environmental Policy and Regulation from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Lovleen is associated with the Law, Environment and Development (LEAD) journal published jointly by SOAS and the International Environmental Law Research Centre (IELRC), Geneva, as well as the Environmental Law Research Society (ELRS), a non-governmental organization based in New Delhi. Her research focuses on the rights to environment, water, and sanitation, generally and specifically in the context of water pollution, and the associated international and domestic (in India) law and policy frameworks. She has also written on aspects of climate change, forest and water governance.

Adil Hasan KHAN, BA/LLB, MIS

Adil Hasan Khan, a Research Associate, is currently pursuing a PhD in international law with a minor in Anthropology and Sociology at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID), Geneva. He holds a Masters in International Studies (MIS) with a specialization in international law from the same institution and a BA/LLB Hons. from the National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal. His areas of research include indigenous peoples' rights, international law and colonialism, and culture and rights.

Sujith KOONAN, LLB, LLM, MPhil, PhD

Sujith Koonan is Assistant Professor at Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. He completed his PhD from SOAS-University of London where he was a recipient of the SOAS Doctoral Research Scholarship (2013-16). He holds a M.Phil. in International Law from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and LL.M. in Environmental Law and Human Rights from Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi. He is a Member, Editorial Board of the Law, Environment and Development Journal (LEAD)—a joint publication of SOAS-University of London and International Environmental Law Research Centre (IELRC), Geneva.

Birsha Ohdedar is a researcher and lawyer. He is currently pursuing a PhD at SOAS, University of London on the human right to water and climate change in India. Birsha holds a BA/LLB from the University of Auckland and an LLM in Environmental Law from SOAS, University of London. Birsha is a qualified solicitor in New Zealand and has previously worked in the Environment & Climate Change team at Simmons & Simmons, a global law firm based in London.

Francis KARIUKI, LLB

Francis Kariuki, Research Assistant, is pursuing an LLM in Environmental law at the University of Nairobi. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and a researcher in environmental law focusing in natural resources law, intellectual property, conflict management and international law. He worked as a legal assistant at the firm of Kariuki Muigua and Co. Advocates. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nairobi.
